Relay is a virtual design festival for students, where the speakers are also young designers. It’s roots are in informal, honest discussions about industry life, and has a strong mission to boost diversity in the design industry, educate students and exist as a networking platform. I designed all elements of the identity, created animated illustrations and an explainer video, as well as creating style guides and a set of pin badges (well, I used Cinema 4D and Redshift to model them [dang pandemic]).
As a major project, I delved into tonnes of research about productivity and flexible hours (originally about the 4-day work week in general, I'm all for progressive stuff) and settled my aim on how community and collective action can help the design industry.
My mission was to create a virtual design festival that stands apart, with its USPs and advantages, from physical design festivals. I wanted the identity to reflect the individuality and emotions of being human, while having an underlying acceptance of chaos and disorganisation. The idea was born in the middle of a pandemic after all.
